Description
New Spatial Realities - Lost in Play: Collective Personal Storytelling
Lost in Play: Collective Personal Storytelling is the first of a new periodical zine publication about Unlearning Through Play from Nooma and friends of the studio.
Featuring
Nooma Studio x Calum Duncan
Nooma Studio invite you to a round-table discussion and the launch of 'Lost in Play' zine on 15th of June hosted by Nooma Studio members and Calum Duncan.
This year’s Architecture Fringe Festival is based on the theme of [UN]Learning - a recurring theme in NOOMA Studio’s work and a topic that is very much close to our hearts both professionally and personally as a collective design studio.
From the outset it was obvious that our response needed to be conversational and true to our belief in the effectiveness of collective play-led storytelling. We asked members and friends of the studio to each submit a personal spread that responds to the theme ‘[UN]Learning Through Play’ which has captured a snapshot of our studio discourse in zine form.
Engaging with the festival this year has given us an opportunity to look deep within and to open a dialogue amongst our wider network on the theme of [UN]Learning. It has encouraged us to ask what more can be done to shake off the inherited knowledge and social structures that perpetuate the social injustices that we seek to deconstruct?
We hope that you find some enjoyment in the page of the Zine and that you can join us for a conversation at our roundtable talk on 15th June.

Calum Duncan x Archischools
Calum Duncan is an RIAS Sustainable Building Design and RIBA Conservation accredited architect, Director at Calum Duncan Architects, Edinburgh, and Chair of the Board Of Directors at Play Scotland. Calum is currently a tutor at The University of Edinburgh and has been a visiting critic/ lecturer at Strathclyde University, Mackintosh School of Architecture and Manchester School of Art.
Archischools are an independent collective of Architects, Artists and Educators with no formal membership. Formed in the run up to the 2016 Architecture Fringe, Archischools wished to focus a project around Architecture in Schools, as there was a common feeling within the group that we, the Scottish community, lack a cultural confidence in understanding and taking part in shaping our built environment. Calum Duncan Architects led the co-ordination of a small group of architects and artists to explore how the general public, but more specifically, Scottish children, (our future public, parliamentarians, shapers and builders of physical stuff), are forming relations with the environment that surrounds us.
