Our Houses, Sydney 2024
Thu 17 Oct 2024 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM AEDT
Tongue & Groove, 17–19 Danks Street, Waterloo, Sydney NSW 2017
Description
In this edition of Our Houses, two architects and their clients will discuss their approach to designing modest and adaptable homes that resist a culture of excess. In designing and building houses for today, what can we learn from the past, and how might we better equip them to endure into the future?
TALKS
Jennifer McMaster, director of Trias, and her clients Laura and Jono will share their experiences of designing Draped House, a cleverly planned home with a billowing roof. Inspired by the efficiency and economy of mid-century design, Draped House prioritises outlook and amenity over area.
Toby Breakspear, director of Breakspear Architects, and his clients Stephen and Elizabeth will delve into the design of Shed House, a new home that explores the congruence of work and domestic life. The design employs a courtyard model and an unprogrammed ground floor to address often-conflicting demands for privacy, flexibility and outlook on a typical suburban block.
