Ideas that shape a practice, then and now

First and Last makes its Adelaide debut! Join Dave Bickmore and Graham Charbonneau (Studio Gram) and Adriana Hanna (Adriana Hanna Office) as they each reflect on one of the earliest projects in their career and contrast it with a recent work.

Through candid presentations and conversations, the session will explore how creative practices evolve over time, what remains constant, and how the design landscape has shifted. It’s a chance to hear personal insights into a career in practice, how to achieve longevity in the design industry, and what they have each learnt along the way. Hear stories from behind the work – from humble beginnings to current-day milestones.

TALKS

Osteria Oggi • Studio Gram

Dave Bickmore and Graham Charbonneau, directors of Studio Gram, will tell the story of their first project, Osteria Oggi, a long-standing restaurant in the heart of Adelaide. They will also discuss how the studio’s early principles have carried through to one of their latest projects, the design of their own office in Brompton.

Westgarth House • Fisher House

Adriana Hanna, director of Adriana Hanna Office, will share insights into Westgarth House (completed during her time at Kennedy Nolan), a modernist-inspired addition that is playful and pragmatic. She will also present Fisher House, an elegantly adapted 1970s Melbourne home originally designed by Alistair Knox.
