What’s your favourite day of the year? World Penguin Day? Random Act of Kindness Day? Or maybe Ice Cream for Breakfast Day? The one we’ve come to look forward to is the 88^th day of the year – when we like to clear our schedule to spend some quality time with the dashing, demure and dynamic music machine that is the grand piano.

Angèle David-Guillou is a composer and a performer. Influenced by Baroque music, Central Asian harmonies, ambient music and minimalism. Her most recent opus, 'A Question of Angles', was released in 2021, receiving glowing four-star reviews in Mojo and the Financial Times among others. Her distinctive orchestral chamber music and 'indelible melodies' (Mojo) have featured in TV programmes and feature films (most recently PAN TO MIME by cult art director Michel Zumpf, 2024), and have been favoured by illustrious fashion brands.

Angèle will be performing ‘Mouvements Organiques’, a single, up to forty minutes long, semi-structured semi-improvised composition which responds to the resonance of the piano and the room it is in. For this performance she with be joined by electroacoustic composer and contrabassoon player Thomas Stone.

Self-taught pianist and composer Daniel Inzani has been a pivotal figure on the Bristol alternative music scene for more than a decade. He leads a neoclassical chamber quartet Spindle Ensemble, co-curates Hidden Notes Festival in Stroud, and he’s worked with a baffling array of outfits, playing Ethiopian funk, Indonesian gamelan, rocksteady, 1950s-style exotica and post rock, as well as working closely with fellow maverick musicians Alabaster dePlume and Cosmo Sheldrake.

His first major solo release Selected Worlds, exploring the very different sides to his musical personality across 3 contrasting but connected vinyl LPs. The critically acclaimed triple  album was co-released by Hidden Notes Records and Tardigrade Records  receiving a 5 star review in The Guardian where it was listed as the  contemporary album of the month.

Vivek Santhosh is a multifaceted musician with over 15 years of experience as a performer, composer, arranger, and educator. With a strong foundation in Carnatic vocal and Western Classical piano, he seamlessly navigates diverse genres. Influenced by Jazz and Progressive music, As a versatile freelance musician, he has collaborated with renowned bands and musicians globally, including Grammy Award winners and nominees. Vivek's artistic philosophy emphasizes uniqueness, which is reflected in his distinctive compositions and performances.

In-between this week, welcoming you into the space and joining the dots between the other artists is Kit Bula. He will use his very dexterous toes to integrate the marvels of his mother's original 1980 Casiotone keyboard into his percussive world.

On this occasion we’ll invite musicians old and new to join us and bring us closer to the merry march of dancing keys and hammers - it would be lovely to see you once again around the piano on the 88^th day of 2025.

Arctic Circle's Daylight Music has, for over fifteen years, become an important part of London’s live music scene, with a weird and wonderful mix of musicians presenting ideas and storytelling in music and sound,  alongside delicious cake, in some of the most splendid and iconic venues.
