Sounding By The Sea Presents: Alkanna Graeca
+ Robert Stillman (solo)

Alkanna Graeca is a vocal trio blending raw folk traditions from the Balkans, Mediterranean and Black Sea with free improvisation and expansive soundscapes. Formed by Dunja Botic, Alexandra Achillea and Irini Arabatzi, their music weaves the deep cultural heritage of their homelands with a bold, boundary-pushing edge.

Hailed as “rising stars of polyphonic singing”, Alkanna Graeca have been selling out venues and captivating audiences across festival stages in the UK and Greece. Their sound is earthy, timeless and stripped bare - tradition transformed through improvisation.

Robert Stillman is a saxophonist, improviser, and composer. Originally from Maine now living in Margate, his projects are characterised by a willingness to ask and answer questions about reality, and his relationship to it, as well as by a radical commitment to spontaneity and process. He is heavily influenced by regular collaboration with Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner (The Smile/Voices of Bishara) as well as Dave Okumu, Sean Carpio and Anders Holst, among others. In addition to 12 records under his own name, he has also created work for installation and various media.
