Join artist Ella Carty over five weeks and feel rejuvenated by colour!
Be gently guided through mixing, combining and using colour via a range of artists who each use colour in different ways.
Across the five weeks, Ella will be showing you how to use acrylic and gouache paints to mix and combine colours, how to use acrylic inks and how to make collage works. These relaxed and informal sessions will emphasise spontaneity and self-expression and are aimed at inspiring new approaches to using colour, generating a springboard for your own creative practice.
Come along to simply create space to relax and enjoy working with colour, or use the sessions to find starting points to stimulate your work.

TELL ME MORE
In the first session, Ella will be exploring some colour theory as well as how to mix colours. In the following sessions, Ella will take you on a journey through recent art history, looking at how artists have used colour in different ways. Each week the focus will be on a different artist to explore themes of colour relativity, abstraction and our emotional responses to it.
Over 5 weeks, learn about your own intuitive use of colour and how other artists express themselves through their colour choices.
WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?
No experience is necessary, these sessions focus on process and enjoyment rather than final outcomes. All welcome!

ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
Ella Carty is an artist who works predominantly with acrylic ink on canvas. She uses colour to create imagined spaces and to generate an emotional connection with the viewer.
"I am a painter who investigates my own experiences of the world. I am interested in describing a process of perception, discovery and regeneration. Spitting out paint and matter as I go along. A messy and rewarding process and something that keeps me endlessly satisfied.
Creating layers of associations from scavenged sources. A slurry of art history, of physical landscape and emotional encounters and all the fictions I have constructed in between, especially the fictions I suppose.
I like the idea of other possibilities underneath layers of pigment. Liquid pools of cobalt blue stubbed out by crimson or layers of spectre grey. In this sense I come from a long line of painters obsessed with the physical materials and what they can do, it's a seductive process.
I rarely have a plan. I want to be surprised."
