TELL ME MORE
This course is for anyone who would like a basic introduction to mixing paint colours. If you would like to use colour but don't know where to start, or feel frustrated that you can't mix the colours you want to use, then this introductory course is for you. Ella will be using acrylic paints to show you how to mix both cool and warm toned primary colours to achieve different results. This will further your understanding of paint colours as well as enable you to mix the colours you want to use in your own painting.
Come along and be inspired by the array of colours and tones you can mix yourself!
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
- Basic colour theory, including creating a colour wheel with primary, secondary and tertiary (the ones in between) colours
- Recognising complementary colours and when to use them
- The basic mechanics of mixing acrylic paints - quantities and proportions of paint, which tools and surfaces are best, avoiding 'muddy' colours

WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?
Complete beginners and anyone who feels less confident about using colour. This course will provide a good foundation for further exploration and experimentation.

ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
Ella Carty is an artist who works predominantly with acrylic ink on canvas. She uses colour to create imagined spaces and to generate an emotional connection with the viewer.
"I am a painter who investigates my own experiences of the world. I am interested in describing a process of perception, discovery and regeneration. Spitting out paint and matter as I go along. A messy and rewarding process and something that keeps me endlessly satisfied.
Creating layers of associations from scavenged sources. A slurry of art history, of physical landscape and emotional encounters and all the fictions I have constructed in between, especially the fictions I suppose.
I like the idea of other possibilities underneath layers of pigment. Liquid pools of cobalt blue stubbed out by crimson or layers of spectre grey. In this sense I come from a long line of painters obsessed with the physical materials and what they can do, it's a seductive process.
I rarely have a plan. I want to be surprised."
