Explore a world of possibilities and find a sense of play with acrylic inks

This popular course returns! Join Ella Carty for a full-day workshop to explore this versatile medium. In this workshop Ella will help you explore colour and form: mixing and layering the inks to achieve the results you want. She will also look at how to generate ideas for structure and composition. You don't need to have attended a previous acrylic ink class, this workshop will suit beginners as well as people with more experience.

This day workshop will include a brief introduction to the inks and materials you will be using. This will include working with metallic inks as well as more traditional coloured inks. You will have your own table to work at, watercolour paper and primed cotton canvas boards so that you can alternate between two paintings, allowing time for the inks to dry before working into them again. The class size is limited to eight people, allowing everyone plenty of tutor input.

The day will cover:

• Using ink on paper to get into the flow of creating some different types of marks with rags, brushes and squeegees.
• Using these experimental mark making studies as a starting point to begin your two paintings. You will learn or build on your knowledge of dry brush and wet on wet techniques. Ella will demonstrate these as you go along.
• Experimenting with colour combinations, mixing and layering colours as well as how to work from light to dark tones, to keep a vibrancy to the paintings.

WHO IS THIS CLASS SUITABLE FOR?

This day course is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience of painting using this medium.
Please wear old clothes, aprons also provided. 
You will be working flat on the art tables, so you can be sitting or standing.

ABOUT YOUR TUTOR

Ella Carty is a local artist who works predominantly with acrylic ink on canvas. She uses colour to create imagined spaces and to generate an emotional connection with the viewer. She enjoys the colour intensity, fluidity and versatility of acrylic inks and the commitment to the mark they bring.

“As an artist I have been primarily using acrylic inks to make paintings for the last 10 years. My love of vibrant colours has led me to really embrace this medium as the pigments are strong. I also love that this is a water-based medium which makes it easy to use, quick drying and doesn’t require toxic substances like turps/white spirit etc.

To me it feels like a cross between acrylic paint and watercolours. It has the intensity of strong colour pigments (like acrylic paints) but can be used as a very fluid, almost unpredictable medium when used wet on wet (like watercolour painting).

I always think it’s great to explore a different medium or material to work with. It leads to challenges and exciting new discoveries and is a great way to get back into painting if you feel stuck or haven’t done it for a while.”

Art Centre Penryn is a small, non-profit organisation and our courses form a really important part of our income, we are therefore not able to offer refunds within 30 days of the course date. We offer the following refund/exchange options:

If it is more than 30 days from the course start date, we can offer a full refund, less the booking fee. Within 30 days days from the course start date, we cannot offer a refund, but we could transfer you to another course, or offer a voucher for you to use to book another course. Alternatively, you could send someone else in your place, please just email us to let us know.

We're sorry, but we are unable to offer a last minute exchange within 24 hrs, or after the course, unless in exceptional circumstances.
