TELL ME MORE
Draw along to music, with brain stimulating warm-up exercises to help you loosen up or discover/rediscover your personal approach to drawing.
These relaxed life drawing sessions are ideal for getting out of a creative rut and into a state of flow. These semi-guided classes are designed to feed into your creative practice, whatever your drawing ability.
The classes are body-inclusive; working with a diverse pool of life models each week.
Peach Doble, your tutor, suggests a different material or approach each week to get the creative juices flowing:
SUMMER LIFE DRAWING - SESSION OUTLINE
WED 3 JUN: Life drawing for Creative Flow
A guided session full of quick and meditative drawing exercises - designed to help you find/re-discover creative flow in your drawing practice. Working with a nude model in expressive/unusual poses for gestural working.
- Bring bigger mark-makers like charcoal, pastels, ink, etc. and leave the pencils/rubbers at home for this one (colour is welcome but not essential).
WED 10 JUN: Fluid Life Drawing
Practice/learn fluid drawing techniques. Less thinking, more mark-making. Working in tune with your body with ink/brush and creamy pastels for ultimate looseness.
- Bring lots of paper (thicker than newsprint) brushes, inks and pastels (any will do! But oily preferred).
WED 17 JUN: The Body as Imagined Landscape
Using surrealist techniques to re-imagine the figure. Tap into the subconscious with dreamy, colourful and expressive figurative works.
- Bring fluid mark-makers and colour colour colour. Lots of paper, inks, pastels etc.
WED 24 JUN: Mastering Negative Space
Working backwards to understand body shapes. Perfect for those learning or anyone wanting a refresher on the basics of observational drawing.
- This class is primarily about observation, so you’ll only need simple materials: charcoal/graphite and lots of paper. But you’re welcome to bring any material you feel you want to push/practice.
WED 1 JUL: Expressive Fashion Illustration Life Drawing
A theatrical costumed session working with texture, pattern, colour and scale. Stretch, warp and expand the silhouette to create dynamic drawings.
- Bring a mix of materials, paper and equipment. Including: inks, paints, pastels, collage paper, scissors, glue, recycling, coloured and textured paper.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT:
- Newsprint paper and charcoal available free every week, bring your own materials, or buy limited materials from us at low cost.
- We have A1 and A2 drawing boards and easels (easels offered on a first come, first served basis, or people could swap during the session). Alternatively, the drawing boards can be comfortably used sitting down and resting on trestles
- In advance of the classes starting, Peach will suggest different materials to bring.

Please note:
The room temperature will be adjusted using infra-red and fan heaters for the model’s comfort during the session. Please dress appropriately for sessions as the space may get hot and ensure to bring water to drink.
