Christian Houge: Echoes of Utopia - Private View
Coming this October
Echoes of Utopia is an ongoing photographic series by Christian Houge that explores Spomeniks, the monumental World War II memorials of the former Yugoslavia through the historic collodion wet plate process. Once symbols of unity, progress, and a utopian political vision, these striking Brutalist structures are reimagined as poetic reflections on memory, ideology, and the passage of time.
Using the unpredictable chemistry of 19th-century photography, Houge transforms these monuments into haunting, atmospheric images that blur the boundaries between history and myth. Rather than documenting the sites as relics of the past, Echoes of Utopia invites viewers to reflect on themes of collective memory, impermanence, and the enduring relationship between architecture, landscape, and identity.
Join us this October at Art Forward Gallery to experience this powerful exhibition and encounter a body of work that considers how the monuments of a vanished political era continue to hold, reflect and reshape the histories we remember today.
Echoes of Utopia will be open from 15 October - 31 October 2026
