Anansi and the Lost Sun is a West African Tale told with puppetry, spoken word & traditional West African music.
This show is performed by Swallow’s Wings Puppetry who are a London-based grassroots puppet company who aim to empower people of all ages with a love and reverence for African-Caribbean culture and history. They have collaborated with cultural organisations including Tate Britain, Manchester Royal Exchange, Eden Project, Somerset House, and the V&A.

The "Anansi" stories are humorous, lively, and community-led stories that traveled with enslaved African people to the Caribbean and then to the UK with the Windrush generation. They are part of our multicultural British heritage and have a universal appeal to all people.

Age recommendation 3 - 7

This show has a storyline that can be followed and enjoyed by 3-4-year olds including some nursery rhymes and fun visuals but also uses some slightly more complex ideas, humour, dialogue and song lyrics that older children might get more out of. There is nothing really scary in this show but it does use dramatic music and lighting, for example the theatre will go dark during the performance which some children might find unsettling and the characters may face some perils. Please have a look at the trailer for the show to get an idea of the tone.

All ages are welcome at our shows and age ranges can only be a rough guide, but please bear in mind that Anansi and the Lost Sun was not specially designed for under-threes. A show aimed at two-year olds would have some differences – those shows are carefully made to hold their attention for the duration, and not to be unsettling for them. If you do bring under threes to the show, we ask that you take them out if they become upset or distracted so as not to effect the enjoyment of the rest of the audience.

Seating

We allocate seating in advance to ensure that everyone has a good view. We always make sure that no child is sat behind an adult and that people who have booked with babies can get out easily if they need to. We seat people in the order in which they have booked, so those who book far in advance will be seated nearer to the front. When you arrive, one of the team will show you to your allocated seats.
