Jake Thomas

Hailing from Haiku, trumpet player Jake Thomas is a Maui native and graduate of King Kekaulike High School. He has performed in landmark jazz venues including The Blue Note and Birdland in New York City.

Jake has just finished his Sophomore year of college at SUNY Purchase. There he has worked closely with renowned professors including Ingrid Jensen, Todd Coolman, and Pete Malenverni. He has served as the university’s lead trumpet player for the past two years in both the Purchase Jazz Orchestra and Purchase Latin Jazz Orchestra. These ensembles perform annually at the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, and Birdland in New York City.

Jake will return to study with Jon Faddis, Gary Smulyan, Ralph Lalama and the rest of the esteemed faculty at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music in the fall.

Jazz Maui, a nonproft organization, provides opportunities for participation in high quality jazz music education and performances for students of all ages. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Jazz Maui presented live festivals, clinics and workshops and now offers them virtually, creating a venue for student performers to learn from and establish connections with music professionals.
