Online Classes (Part 2 and recording of Part 1) on Schafer's Crown of Ariadne
Eleanor Turner shares twenty years of experience studying and performing The Crown of Ariadne, including rare insights from a very special masterclass she performed at in 2011 at the World Harp Congress in Vancouver, with composer Murray Schafer himself and the work's dedicatee, Judy Loman.
This masterclass is split into two separate online classes (the first of which has happened but you can still access the recording and full resources) which participants get access to either attend live (one or both) and/or can watch the recordings afterwards. When you buy a ticket to the first class (Tuesday 7th July 6pm GMT+1), you automatically gain access to the second class and will be sent a separate Zoom link for that class (5pm Sunday 12th July GMT+1)
UK (Summer) Time: 5pm UTC +1 for the upcoming class on Sunday 12th July.
Translates to 6pm Italy, France, Spain etc, 8am Pacific Time, 10am Central Time, 11am Eastern Time, midnight (the next day) China, Hong Kong, 2am (the next day) Australia

Prior to meeting Murray Schafer and Judy Loman at the World Harp Congress in Vancouver in 2011, Eleanor won a prestigious Wingate Scholarship to study the piece with Erika Waardenburg in The Netherlands and also competed with it in Round 2 and Round 4-Finals - of the 2010 International Gaudeamus Interpreters Contest for Contemporary Music in Amsterdam. Eleanor recorded The Crown of Ariadne alongside works by Yinam Leef, Ig Henneman and Toshiro Muyuzumi on Champs Hill Records and three years later performed the complete work in 2014 at Hambleton Hall in the UK.

Eleanor is passionate about immersive performance and enjoys being able to share composers' thoughts and wishes with her students. These workshops open up the knowledge Eleanor has acquired over the years to a global audience, in the hope that experienced performers of the work will come forward to share their own insights and that newcomers to this music will feel encouraged and empowered to purchase the score, delve into the world of Ariadne and feel that this is a relevant and approachable piece for future generations of harpists and audiences to engage with!
This is an incredible opportunity to connect with harpists around the world, explore new concepts, share your own insights and compare approaches with others worldwide. This is a valuable opportunity to celebrate the legacy of Murray Schafer - who sadly passed away in 2021 - and fire each other up with ideas for future stagings of this work. If you are able to attend but you have financial limitations, or if you have any access queries, drop Eleanor a line: info@eleanorturner.com
Note about the score itself from Eleanor: "At the time of publishing this event, the score available to purchase on the Canadian Music Centre website is set at completely the wrong price - do not purchase yet! I will send you a direct link to purchase the score (if you don't already have it!) when they update their catalogue with the correct prices, which are 45 Canadian Dollars for the hard copy of the score, and 35 Canadian Dollars for the PDF. I shall update this event with the link once CMC have updated the listing."
