Some things are passed down without ever being given. A photograph tucked away in a drawer. A story told and retold until it begins to feel like our own. A familiar gesture, a quiet absence, the remnants of a life we never knew.

Hand Me Downs is a solo exhibition by Bao Nghi Ngo exploring memory, migration, and the things we inherit from those who came before us. Drawing from her family's photographic archives and history of migration from Vietnam, Ngo works with cyanotype, printmaking, and hand stitching to revisit moments that existed before her own.

Photographs are fragmented, repeated, obscured, and sewn together again. Each image carries traces of another time, altered through the act of remembering, much like the stories and histories that change as they pass from one generation to the next.

Some things reach us already worn by time, softened by memory, and shaped by hands we may never have known. We inherit more than what is left behind. We carry the silences, the unfinished stories, and the memories of lives we never lived.

Presented as the culmination of Bao Nghi Ngo's AiR: Underground residency at Arts Mission Oak Cliff, Hand Me Downs is an exploration of what remains, what is lost, and what we continue to carry.
