How better to spend time, making memories in a unique way with a beautiful portrait of each other to share for your efforts!

Every face tells a story. Portraiture is an immensely rewarding experience. This class will provide students with the skills necessary to depict something as complex as the human face, with the goal of capturing the unique essence of their subject.

We will begin our day with teas and scones around the table at our Artists' Retreat. You are invited to bring several images and photographs to work from. You can also have the opportunity to draw from real life (each other).

You will have the opportunity to develop the skills involved in crafting a realistic portrait. Students will be encouraged to work on charcoal and pencil drawings of individual features, before moving onto an acrylic painting.

Please bring a packed lunch to accommodate your own dietary requirements.  Diluted juice and water will be available throughout the day.

We will explore the basic anatomy of the human face, simplifying brushstrokes while looking at the face and composition, towards a successful portrait.  We'll be looking at tonal value relationships, colour theory and painting techniques (brushwork, texture, blending).

Working from a combination of a live model and photographic images, we'll be learning lots and having the craic along the way. 

Please bring your own images for painting references you can also email your images to us for printing!

This day is specifically designed for young people in Secondary School Education, one adult (Parent, Guardian or Grandparent) per young person must also attend.

Cost €45 per person. 10.30am-4.00pm. 8 participants in total. Tea and juice provided. Materials included.

We will supply Canvas boards, acrylic paints and brushes for your use. 

Please bring your own reference photographs and any other preferred materials. 

Resident artist Sinéad Smyth will lead the course.
