Over the past two decades, regulatory scrutiny and restrictions on microbicides—particularly formaldehyde-condensate types—have intensified significantly. As regulatory agencies continue to blur the lines between formaldehyde-condensate and formaldehyde toxicity, the list of approved active substances has steadily dwindled. In this session, Fred will trace the history of metalworking fluid microbicide regulation, provide a critical overview of today’s most commonly used actives, and emphasize the importance of efficacy testing tailored to individual formulations.
Speaker
Fred is an internationally recognized microbiologist and widely regarded as a leading authority on microbial contamination control in industrial process fluids. He is an ASTM and STLE Fellow with over 50 years of experience in environmental-industrial microbiology. A past president of the International Biodegradation & Biodeterioration Society (IBBS), Fred has received numerous awards and has authored more than 70 publications.
