In this live recording of our State of Asia podcast, Qing Wang, China and the World Fellow at Asia Society Switzerland, will share insights from her current work exploring fertility in China, using it as a lens to examine broader questions of feminism, demographics, and intimate relationships. In particular, she focuses on how these themes shape the lived experiences of young Chinese women today, a perspective Qing sees as crucial to understanding contemporary China. Her widely followed podcast The Weirdo (不合时宜 "buheshiyi"), one of the most influential independent Chinese-language podcasts, has been an important platform for facilitating conversations around these topics.

Together with Remko Tanis, Managing Editor at Asia Society Switzerland, Qing will reflect on her findings and discuss what they reveal about China today – and what they may mean for the world. The conversation will move between personal narratives and broader societal shifts, offering a rare and nuanced perspective on Chinese society.

Join us for this live taping of the State of Asia podcast. Listen to the unedited conversation and engage directly with Qing by asking questions and sharing your views.

Qing's essay accompanying this episode will be published on June 3 and will be available as a PDF download.
