Local History Double Bill

Join us for a fascinating double bill exploring two often-overlooked stories from the local area.

Joanna Oyediran, founder of Iya London, will uncover the history of the Laundry Women of Askew Road, sharing stories of the women who worked in the local laundries and helped shape the community.

Photographs of Askew Road women in the launderette by Tiana Rendimonti will put a contemporary twist on laundry ladies!

We’ll also hear from Bren Simson about the extraordinary Jeanne Deroin, a pioneering French feminist, socialist and campaigner for women's rights who made her home on Cobbold Road. One of the heroines of the nineteenth-century struggle for social and political justice. After fleeing to England following the 1848 Revolution, she settled in Hammersmith and continued her activism and campaigning for the emancipation of women.
