ALL London is happy to host this meeting on behalf of ALL. Please note that although this is primarily for ALL members, we are happy for others to attend and hope that they will wish to join ALL.
Session overview
In Autumn 2023, the Government set out the vision of a world-leading 16-19 education vision. To meet this ambition the Government proposed to introduce the Advanced British Standard (ABS), a new baccalaureate-style qualification framework at 16-19.
Our ALL consultation briefings hosts Helen Myers and Steven Fawkes will be joined by ALL's chair of the management board, Professor René Koglbauer, who will be leading this briefing session.
With this webinar, we aim to
- inform our members of the ABS proposals
- explore what these proposals could mean for languages (opportunities and areas of concern)
- gather members' perspectives to inform ALL's consultation response
- encourage individual members to respond to the consultation to ensure languages are carefully considered in the next development stages of the Advanced British Standard.
Our presenter: René Koglbauer
Following nearly two decades in secondary education and initial teacher education in Austria, Hungary, Oxfordshire and the North East, Professor René Koglbauer-Franklin is currently Dean of Lifelong Learning and Professional Practice at Newcastle University and was appointed Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in 2017. René joined ALL when he started out his career as a language assistant in the UK in 1999.
After a period of time on ALL Council, René joined the Management Board as Honorary Finance Officer, was ALL President from 2014-2016 and continued as invited trustee. Since 2017, René holds the post of Chair of Management Board. Under his leadership, the Association underwent an organisational restructure. René represents ALL on various national and international steering groups, was a member of UCML’s executive board and is particularly interested in language curriculum, assessment and language policy.
