9.30

10.00- 10.10

MAIN HALL: Welcome and ALL up-dates  from Helen Myers, Chair of ALL London , and from a representative from the Spanish Embassy Education Office

10.10 – 11.00

MAIN HALL: 'A Lesson with Digressions' Vincent Everett HOD Northgate School, author, local ALL leader and blogging as ‘the nice man who teaches languages’. Vincent will present a lesson he often uses as a taster lesson for Year 6 pupils. In the digressions, he will look at how it exemplifies important issues such as dual coding, the use of "sentence builders", story telling, and the balance between grammar and communication. We are delighted that he is now available to speak in London!

11.05 – 11.30

MAIN HALL: 'Portsmouth City of Languages’ Liz Lord,Independent Consultant, local leader of ALL on Portsmouth shares her positive experience of helping to build a successful ‘City of Languages’. Could London meet this challenge? We hope so! Join the chat at lunchtime to discuss!

11.30 – 12.00

CORRIDORS: EXHIBITION Comfort break / top-up of coffee / chance to ‘network’ / view info sent from corporate members, ALL, Language Institutes and our sponsors.

12.05 – 13.00

THE CLASSROOMS:

5 parallel workshops:

For secondary, each language with a new GCSE will have a separate room to focus on how to resource lessons, led by an experienced curriculum manager who will contribute and encourage others to share.    

  • French: Nathalie Blondeau, Senior Languages Consultant at Harris Federation
  • German: Catherine Ames, Associate Senior Leader, Head of Languages, Lead Practitioner, Languages Consultant, ALL Council Member and Wanda Marshall, teacher, trainer, writer and examiner.
  • Spanish: Adam Lamb,  Director of Modern Foreign Languages, United Learning

David Blow, Helen Myers + Exam Board representatives will visit each room to give a brief input on support available and guidance on assessing the new cohort taking a new exam.

Primary colleagues will be led by Liz LordSteven Fawkes and our superb hub coordinators to share good practice. Please bring your ideas and your enthusiasm to listen and/or contribute.

HHCL colleagues will be led by Dr Fatima Khaled.  She will talk about project-based language learning for heritage learners and invite ideas about how to promote creativity and motivation.

13.05-14.00

EXHIBITION

PICNIC IN THE CLOISTER Bring your own picnic and something to sit on, We will provide the squash!  Just socialise there OR Join us to brainstorm ideas for a London City of Languages in a session chaired by Vicky Gough (British Council) and including Bernadette Clinton and Steven Fawkes
sharing ideas based on experiences in  Hackney and Newcastle respectively.

  1. £1 [Pay £11 and get a £10 refund if you attend]– Students, and 'first-timer' Primary teachers and Community languages teachers [We will refund your registration fee if you attend - you only pay the admin fee]
  2. £10 ALL individual members (incl. retired) or people who join on the day.
  3. £20 – group members
  4. £35 – non-members.

PLEASE NOTE: To cut down costs and administration time, we won’t send confirmation unless you particularly ask for it... if you have paid, assume you have a place unless you hear otherwise!  The cost of the ticket includes the processing fee charged by the platform.
