Bio:

Edel Meade is a multi award-winning performing artist, songwriter and educator from Co. Tipperary. Her latest album 'Brigids and Patricias' explores what it means to be a woman in 21st century Ireland, drawing on Irish folklore and mythology, Irish history and current affairs. It was described as "most courageous Irish album of the year" in The Irish Times.

Edel has been the recipient of numerous awards from the Arts Council of Ireland. She was selected for the prestigious Fulbright-Creative Ireland Professional Fellowship Award and spent six months in Berkeley, California in 2023 conducting artistic research and teaching 'Traditional Irish Singing: A Journey of Ireland Through Song' to Americans. She has also presented guest lectures on Irish folklore and mythology for the Celtic Studies program at U.C. Berkeley, the Women's Spirituality program at CIIS San Francisco and at the Women and Mythology conference in New York.

Edel is currently working on her third album which is due for release in 2025. She was commissioned to create this performance-project by the Kildare County Council last year under the Brigid1500 scheme to mark 1500 years of Saint Brigid and we are delighted to have her here this evening.
