Contemporary Kids | Exploring the Ocean Depths
Sun Jan 26, 2025 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Atlanta Contemporary, 30318
Description
Join us for a fun and educational art workshop that combines creativity with science! Partnering with Georgia Tech's School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, this special session invites young artists to explore the wonders of our oceans through art.
In this family-friendly workshop, artist Makiko Maekawa will guide children through a hands-on art-making experience using a variety of materials such as paint, paper, and everyday objects. Children will have the opportunity to create their own contemporary works of art inspired by the natural world while learning about ocean sciences and stewardship from the experts at Georgia Tech.
The workshop emphasizes the interconnectedness of art and science, showing kids how art can be a tool to understand and appreciate the environment. Participants will explore the importance of protecting our planet, all while unleashing their creativity in a vibrant and inclusive space.
This is a drop-in event—doors open at 12 pm, and visitors may begin the project anytime until 2 pm. Most participants complete their artwork in 30-45 minutes, and all are invited to explore the exhibitions at Atlanta Contemporary before they leave. Contemporary Kids is open to all ages, making it a perfect activity for families to enjoy together.
