Say It Sideways: Using Sand Tray & Puppets as Communication Tools in Play Therapy

Wed Oct 7, 2026 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM PDT Online, Google Meet

Have you ever watched a child shut down the moment you asked them to talk about their feelings? Or tried an intervention that should have worked, only to realize the words just weren't the right medium? Some kids need a different way to tell their story, and sand tray and puppets give them that.

THIS WEBINAR IS FOR YOU IF

  1. You want to use sand tray or puppets more confidently but aren't sure where to start
  2. You've been piecing together your playroom and need practical, budget-friendly guidance
  3. You're looking for tools that work across ages, presentations, and settings

ABOUT THE WEBINAR

This 1-hour webinar offers a practical overview of two of the most versatile tools in the playroom: sand tray and puppets. During the webinar, we'll explore the therapeutic rationale behind each, how to use them in both directive and non-directive play therapy, and how to adapt them across in-person and teleplay therapy settings. We'll also cover where to source sand tray and puppet supplies at every price point, from low-cost and free alternatives to more robust investments, so you can build your toolkit no matter your budget or setup.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After attending this webinar, you'll be better able to:

  1. Describe the therapeutic rationale for using sand tray and puppets as communication tools in both directive and non-directive play therapy approaches.
  2. Apply sand tray and puppet techniques across in-person and teleplay therapy settings using materials appropriate to each context.
  3. Identify free, low-cost, and higher-investment options for sand tray and puppet materials that align with their practice setting and client population.
