Holding Hard Moments: Navigating Limit Setting and Rupture-Repair in Play Therapy
Have you ever set a limit in play therapy and watched the session fall apart? Or felt unsure whether to repair a rupture or how far to go in enforcing a boundary? This webinar provides clear, flexible strategies for limit setting and rupture-repair, so you can hold hard moments in play therapy with more confidence and protect the relationship you’ve built.
THIS WEBINAR IS FOR YOU IF
- You want to feel more confident setting limits in play therapy without losing the relationship
- You’ve struggled to know how to repair after a rupture with a child or caregiver
- You want a clear framework for choosing how firmly to enforce a limit
ABOUT THE WEBINAR
This 1-hour webinar explores limit setting and rupture-repair as core skills in play therapy. Participants will learn what limits and therapeutic ruptures are, how the rupture-repair cycle works, and how to use a hierarchy of limit-setting interventions that increase in enforcement only as needed. The session also compares limit-setting models from multiple play therapy approaches, giving participants options to adapt to their own practice.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After attending this webinar, you'll be better able to:
- Describe the therapeutic rationale for limit setting and therapeutic rupture and explain how the rupture-repair cycle supports change in play therapy.
- Identify the most common ruptures that occur in play therapy and describe repair strategies that restore the therapeutic relationship.
- Explore how a limit-setting hierarchy can guide decisions to start with gentler interventions and increase boundary enforcement when needed.
