Follow a Darkness Like a Dream...

The Dark Fae Court of Oberon invites you to attend their Midsummer Nightmare revelries: a glittering evening of magic, trickery, and the mocking of mortal fools.

Step into a world of terrifying beauty, cruel delight, and midsummer decadence, where the fae gather to feast, flirt, dance, scheme, and amuse themselves with the fragile hearts of mortals. At Oberon’s celebration, the flowers are poisonous, the laughter has teeth, and even love is only another spell to be cast for sport.

Audacious Immersive presents Midsummer Nightmare, a staged reading and dark fae soirée that transforms Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream into something darker, stranger, and far more dangerous — drawing on Audacious Immersive’s decade-long tradition of theatrical horror, dark humor, and audience-powered mischief. This cut-down version of the play leans into the manipulation, obsession, transformation, and supernatural cruelty already hiding beneath Shakespeare’s enchanted comedy.

The evening begins with Light Revelry, where guests will be welcomed into the Fairy Court, sorted among its factions, and invited to sip, socialize, scheme, and take part in midsummer magic. Then the Court gathers for its entertainment: a staged reading of mortal lovers, foolish players, and fae enchantments spiraling into something darker than a dream.

After the reading, the revel continues with Dancing with the Fairy Court, a chance to linger in Oberon’s realm, celebrate beneath the midsummer moon, and lose yourself a little longer to the nightmare.

This event is also a fundraiser supporting the development of a larger-scale immersive production of Midsummer Nightmare planned for next year. Your ticket helps Audacious Immersive bring the full nightmare to life.

Themed attire required. Elaborate costumes encouraged.
All guests are expected to arrive dressed for Oberon’s Midsummer Celebration. Dark fae, gothic fairy tale, moonlit formalwear, masquerade, enchanted woodland, fungi-and-bone aristocrat, cursed mortal finery, or decadent midsummer nightmare are all welcome.

Mortals in plain clothes may be subject to fae judgment.

Evening Schedule

6:45 PM — Doors Open
7:00–7:30 PM — Light Revelry
7:30 PM — Staged Reading Begins
9:00–10:00 PM — Dancing with the Fairy Court

What Is a Staged Reading?

A staged reading is a theater development tool used to explore how a script works before it moves into full production.

There is a brief rehearsal process wherein the playwright is able to workshop their script with the help of a creative team, including a director, dramaturg, and cast. For the staged reading itself, actors perform with scripts in hand and minimal technical elements.

As an immersive company, inviting an audience into this process is especially important. It helps us test interactive moments and better understand how real people experience the story.

Our staged reading of Midsummer Nightmare is also part of a larger dark fae soirée, so you can expect theatrical staging, atmosphere, character work, audience interaction, and moments of immersive magic woven around the reading itself.

Think of it as a first glimpse into the nightmare: the bones of the story laid bare, the Fairy Court gathered around it, and the larger vision beginning to take shape.

Your attendance helps support the development of a fuller, larger-scale immersive production of Midsummer Nightmare planned for 2027.

Additional FAQ

How long is the event?

The full event runs approximately three hours.

Doors open at 6:45 PM, with Light Revelry from 7:00–7:30 PM. The staged reading begins at 7:30 PM and will run approximately 90 minutes. After the reading, guests are invited to stay for Dancing with the Fairy Court from 9:00–10:00 PM.

What do you mean by “immersive/interactive”?

For this event, guests are not just attending a reading — they are arriving as guests of Oberon’s Midsummer Celebration.

Before the staged reading begins, guests will be welcomed into the world of the Fairy Court, sorted into courts, and invited to participate in light revelry, midsummer rituals, and small moments of theatrical magic. After the reading, guests are invited to stay for Dancing with the Fairy Court.

As always with Audacious Immersive, audience interaction is designed to be playful and opt-in. You are encouraged to participate as much as you feel comfortable, but you will not be forced to perform.

Do I need to wear a costume?

Yes and no. You need to be presentable to the Fae Court. This can be an elaborate Fae Ballgown, but it can also include formalwear, goth fancy-dress, and fantasy-inspired outfits. Even an all black outfit dressed up with a smoky eye can work. The fae particularly enjoy things that glitter, might be found in a forest, (flowers, mushrooms, antlers, bones, wings), dramatic makeup, sumptuous fabrics, floaty veils, and anything that makes you feel pretty. Masquerade style masks are encouraged, and will be available for purchase.

To best fit in with the Dark Fae Court of Oberon, black, earthtones, metal, leather, jewel tones work well.

Oberon and Titania will award a prize to the Best Dressed member of the Court, so those who wish to impress the royals are encouraged to make an entrance.

How much are tickets?

Tickets are available in three tiers:

Fae Court Reveler (General Admission) — $47.50 ($45 + $2.50 taxes and fees)
Includes entry to Oberon’s Midsummer Celebration, the staged reading, and Dancing with the Fairy Court.

Fae Court Noble (VIP) — $58 ($55 + $3.00 taxes and fees)
Includes General Admission, a fairy crown, cast photo, and the Favor of the Court: preferred opportunities for interactive moments throughout the evening.

Patron of the Dark Court — $105 ($100  + $5.00 taxes and fees)
Includes VIP admission plus a ceremonial Dance of Favor with Oberon or Titania during the post-reading revel. Patrons will also receive recognition in the program for the larger-scale immersive production of Midsummer Nightmare planned for 2027.

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes, there will be drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and light refreshment available. Specific food and drink offerings may vary by venue.

Guests are encouraged to arrive when doors open so they have time to settle in, sip, socialize, and enter the world of the Fairy Court before the staged reading portion of the evening begins.

Will there be dancing?

Yes! After the staged reading, guests are invited to stay for Dancing with the Fairy Court from 9:00–10:00 PM.

Dancing is encouraged but not required. Lurking beautifully at the edge of the revel is also acceptable.

Is Midsummer Nightmare appropriate for all ages?

Midsummer Nightmare is appropriate for most audiences, but it is best suited for guests who will enjoy a darker, goth-influenced fairy tale atmosphere.

There is no explicit language or graphic violence. The tone is dark fae, eerie, theatrical, and a little wicked rather than truly frightening or gore-heavy.

Adults and older kids or teens who enjoy dark fantasy, Shakespeare, Grimm’s fairy tales, Halloween, or gothic stories will likely enjoy the experience.

Any content warnings?

This event may include themes of nonconsent, theatrical fog, low lighting, and direct interaction between actors and audience members.

Audience participation is opt-in, and physical touch between performers and audience members is discouraged
