Join Aurorah for the third instalment of Soul Work: an interdisciplinary arts concert series.

To welcome the warmth and groove with an island vibe, Aurorah will be joined by Tanya Hunter on the steel pan. Combining Aurorah's signature sounds with Tanya's bright and cheerful vibes, this will be a concert to delight the senses and enliven us for the summer months.

Expanding into different artistic disciplines, this show will include more art and live theatre, as well as musicians featuring an art show by the extremely talented painter Sudi Allen. Her pieces are incredibly intricate, delicately composed, and have actually been part of the Soul Work series, and Aurorah's decorative work since day one. Pieces will be on display all weekend for your visual pleasure, and available for purchase.

Aurorah - Pianist, Vocalist, Percussionist, Composer, Interdisciplinary Collaborator

You all know Aurorah by now... and if you don't, her whimsical multifaceted live performance is wondrous. Tanya Hunter - Steel Pan

Tanya Hunter started playing steel pan in 1996 at the age of 16. She had the opportunity to experience the birthplace of the only steel pan instrument invented in the 20th century: Trinidad & Tobago, where she was inspired to dedicate her musicianship to the instrument. Playing with multiple bands in Toronto, Tanya has performed at the Caribana festival, and had the honour of performances at the Special Olympics, for Nelson Mandela, for Roger Moore’s honorary doctorate at Ryerson and many more occasions in Canada and the US. Her passion for the instrument never wavered, and she is excited to bring her energy this month as a part of Soul Work.

Purrpelle - Dj

There are many shades to Purrpelle... Her DJ sets often reveal her playful nature and a knack for shaking booties with big bass lines, and stirring souls with moving melodies. Purrpelle is a multi-genre DJ who is known to “exhibit crazy range and versatility.” She has played alongside top-shelf talent in forests and festivals across Canada, appearing at Harvest Festival, Lumaterra, Bloom Festival, PhantomFest, Boreal, Solstice Gathering, In Flow and Eclipse to name a few. At home in Toronto, she has selected sounds for many celebrated promoters including alienInFlux, EveryBody, Wiggly Events, Promise and SUMA. She has also been a resident DJ and curator with local collectives including Architextures, Blend, Chicks Dig It and Dub'runch! She is excited to join this month's Soul Work.

Sudi Allen - Visual Artist of Riversong Studio

Born and raised in Shiraz - Iran's centre for arts, poetry and culture - Soudabeh began painting and studying traditional Persian art in her youth. At the age of 18 she travelled to Canada, where she would complete a Graphic Design degree at OCAD and eventually permanently settle.

Her art is a reflection of the struggles and rewards experienced by immigrants: adapting to a new culture, while preserving the cultural legacy of their homeland. Soudabeh's art is a beautiful, impressionist reflection of her life: a synthesis of warm Persian tradition and mystic Canadian imagery.

A long time collaborator and artistic colleague of Aurorah, the two have been working together for years. They created the first book in Aurorah's piano pedagogy series The B Sharp Manual, as well as an interdisciplinary 12h performance at Nuit Blanche, and Sudi's works have appeared continuously over the past decade in Aurorah's decor work, including the backdrops from the last two Soul Work performances.

Sudi is overjoyed to be able to present more of her work on the walls of Wiggle Room for this month's Soul Work.

OUR VENUE - Wiggle Room https://wiggleroomtoronto.com/

WIGGLE ROOM is a vibrant hub for emerging dance music, artists, and events. Our dance floor is a platform for local communities to build collective joy, positivity, and inspiration, making it the perfect venue for Soul Work. With its stellar staff, great sound, welcoming friendly atmosphere, and bouncy beats, Wiggle Room is a place for stories and friendships to unfold and develop.

One of my favourite things at Wiggle Room is the forever evolving decor, which is contributed to by a rich community of artists of all kinds. The visual art and installations you will be enjoying during Soul Work were created by: Madame Wiggle, Aleks Bartosik art, Jimmy Scott, Wiley Coyote, Tomasz Ciesla, Mike Dunn , Sudi Allen & Aurorah.

Admission to Soul Work also affords you admission to Sunday Service: the Hospitality Industry Weekly social at Wiggle Room. A Dj dance party that follows our Soul Work performance into the wee hours of the night. Every funky Sunday Funday with Toronto's finest: MANZONE & STRONG and the Wiggle Family. Picking up with PURPELLE'S closing set, Sunday Service begins at 8pm, with bar specials before 11pm, and Wellness Cabin (massages) by Sacred Hands.
