AWAY WITH THE GIRLS
Callander to Glen Ogle Viaduct Pedal | Trossachs & Mhor 84 Adventure
We’re heading deep into the stunning Trossachs for an epic Scottish cycling day out! Following the beautiful, traffic-free National Cycle Route 7, we’ll cruise along the old railway line from Callander, passing Loch Lubnaig and winding through the scenic Strathyre forest. Our ultimate turnaround point is the magnificent Glen Ogle Viaduct, where we’ll take in spectacular, dramatic views of the glen from high up on the stone arches.
This is a relaxed, social day out designed to get us moving together, take in some of the best scenery the Highlands have to offer, and refuel with some incredible food.
📍 Location: Starting in Callander, cycling up through Strathyre to the Glen Ogle Viaduct, and back.
⏱ Duration: A full day out (Around 4 to 5 hours of total moving time, plus plenty of time for lunch, photos, and a breather)
🚲 The Terrain: Mostly traffic-free, well-surfaced gravel and tarmac cycle paths following the old railway line. There is a steady, gentle incline on the way up to the viaduct, but that means a glorious, free-wheeling descent on the way back down!
👯♀️ Who this is for: Leisurely to steady cyclists with a decent level of fitness. The full return journey is around 34 miles. While the distance is a step up, the old railway gradient is beautifully gentle and manageable, and our pace will be completely casual and conversational.
✨ What to Expect
- The Vibe: Supportive, relaxed, and strictly non-competitive. We ride at a pace that suits the group and nobody gets left behind.
- The Pitstop & Lunch: On our way back down the glen, we’ll stop off at the iconic Mhor 84 in Balquhidder for a well-deserved, hearty lunch, great coffee, and a good catch-up.
- The Optional Dip: For anyone brave enough, Mhor 84 sits right by the river tracks, and we can stop off by the banks of Loch Lubnaig on our route for an optional, refreshing wild dip on the way back to Callander! Bring a small travel towel if you fancy it.
- The Scenery: Incredible views of dramatic glens, glassy lochs, rushing rivers, and the towering stone arches of the historic viaduct.
🚲 Kit & Bike Requirements
- The Bike: A well-maintained hybrid bike, mountain bike, gravel bike, or e-bike. (Skinny road tyres are not recommended due to some gravelly sections).
- Safety Gear: A helmet is mandatory. It is always good to prince a spare tube, bike pump and puncture repair kit
- Clothing: Dress in layers for the changing Scottish weather. A waterproof jacket is a must, and cycling shorts or padded liners will make the day much more comfortable!
- Swim Kit (Optional): Swimwear, a lightweight travel towel, and warm layers to change into after your dip.
⚠️ Safety & Responsibility Reminder
This is a peer-led community social ride, not a professional guided tour. There is no qualified cycle guide, mechanic, or first aider provided. Cycling and wild swimming carry inherent risks; you are fully responsible for your own safety, your bike's roadworthiness, and your own equipment.
🌧️ Weather
We will reschedule or cancel if the weather looks dangerous or if torrential rain ruins the fun of the day!
