Discover the excitement of outdoor rock climbing while building the skills and confidence to climb safely.
Whether you have never climbed before or have spent some time in an indoor climbing gym and want to take your skills outdoors, this course provides a solid introduction to the fundamentals of rock climbing.
Join Arizona Rock & Canyon Adventures for a hands-on learning experience on real Arizona rock. Our focus is on helping you understand the equipment, techniques and safety practices that form the foundation of recreational climbing.
Throughout the course, we will combine instruction, demonstrations and plenty of practical experience, allowing you to put your new skills to work in a supportive, small-group environment.
What You'll Learn
- Climbing Equipment: Introduction to ropes, harnesses, helmets, carabiners, belay devices and proper equipment use.
- Essential Knots: Common climbing knots, tie-ins and their practical applications.
- Belaying: Proper belay techniques, rope management, communication and partner safety.
- Climbing Movement: Body positioning, balance, footwork and efficient movement on the rock.

- Rappelling: Fundamental techniques for descending safely on a rope.
- Climbing Safety: Partner checks, situational awareness, risk management and responsible climbing practices.
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for beginners and those with limited climbing experience. No previous outdoor climbing experience is required.
It is also an excellent opportunity for indoor climbers interested in transitioning to outdoor rock climbing.
What to Expect
Our training emphasizes practical, hands-on instruction rather than simply getting you up and down a rock face. You will learn not only how to use the equipment and perform essential skills, but also why those skills matter.
We keep our groups small to provide personalized attention, ample practice and opportunities to ask questions.
Our goal is for you to leave with a stronger understanding of rock climbing fundamentals, greater confidence in your abilities and a foundation for continued learning.
