Writing for Resistance

Please join Bay 2 Gaza and our fabulous author facilitators for "Writing for Resistance", a series of writing workshops with an open mic at the end ✨Workshops are led by Priscilla Wathington, Darius Simpson, D. M. Spratley, Fatima Jafar, and Stephanie Horvath. Check out author bios and workshop descriptions below! Please note Fatima’s workshop is a FULLY VIRTUAL offering & our other workshops are IN-PERSON. We are excited to offer the opportunity to participate from anywhere in the world!

The workshops will culminate in a public, IN-PERSON open mic, guest MC'd by Gabriel Cortez. All proceeds from this event will go to the beneficiaries of the Bay2Gaza Mutual Aid Collective. 

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP:

4:00-5:00 PM PST: Fatima Jafar will host her workshop concurrently, VIRTUALLY.

IN-PERSON WORKSHOPS: 

3:00-3:30 PM: Arrive & get settled for writing workshops at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland 

3:30-4:30 PM: In-person writers host their writing workshops. (Reminder that Fatima Jafar's workshop will be virtual.)

5:00-7:00 PM: IN-PERSON OPEN MIC! OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! BRING YOUR FRIENDS!

Access Information: This event requires wearing KN95, N95, or higher filtration masks for the safety & well-being of all attendees. Free KN95/N95 masks will be provided, but if you have access to a KN95 etc., please bring your own. If you are not able to wear a KN95 etc. for medical or health reasons, we trust you to communicate with your workshop facilitator & make adjustments as needed. We encourage rapid covid testing day-of the event and please stay home if you have any symptoms or are sick. The First Unitarian Church of Oakland is three floors. Workshops will be held on all three floors and the open mic will be held on the first floor. All floors are fully wheelchair-accessible with ramps & elevators. Light snacks & water will be provided between the workshops & the open mic, but we encourage participants to bring snacks as well. We ask people to come low-/no-scent and refrain from using perfume or highly fragranced products. Unfortunately we do not have ASL or other language translation for this event.
