Move and tune in to experience the pure silence of consciousness through sound - the ultimate goal of Nada Yoga. In this workshop we’ll begin by moving the body to achieve relaxation, then we’ll lie down and experience a sound bath performed with singing bowls, gong, voice, sitar and other instruments. After the sound bath we’ll close with a short meditation.
Nada Yoga is the oldest Yoga in India and perhaps the world. Since the dawn of humanity, humans have used sound and voice to communicate and to connect to their outer environment and inner beings. According to Indian spiritual tradition, the Universe is born from the primordial sound of Om (also spelled Aum). This primordial sound or vibration, when coupled with consciousness, is known as Nada Brahman or Shad Brahman. The Vedas, the world's oldest scriptures, are compositions in verse and mantra. When chanted in particular ways, Vedas produce distinct vibrations for specific desired effects on body, mind and spirit. In essence, to realize/experience the pure silence of pure consciousness through sound is the ultimate goal of Nada Yoga.
About Andrea Baquero: professional pianist, journalist and educator. Andrea studied multiple somatic therapies and is certified as a breath coach, vibroacoustic and focalizing therapist, yoga instructor, Reiki and Ayurveda practitioner. Andrea has explored music, sound and somatic healing through different cultures - from touring the world as a pianist and singer, exploring classical Indian music, and immersing in shamanic and yogic traditions, to academic settings like deep listening studies of Pauline Oliveros, and studies with the Grammy award winner and University of California faculty teacher Silvia Nakkach. Her constant curiosity and study create a holistic and practical support to spiritual discovery and somatic healing. Andrea believes that “sound and movement are essential to human development because they are a direct path to discovering ourselves and connecting with others. If we practice listening to all the sounds in the world, outside of us, we will eventually allow ourselves to focus on all the sounds inside us, and learn to discern them. We will be able to tune into a world of vibration and choose to selectively listen and sound with love to that which is nurturing. This will ultimately bring us back to harmony with the cosmos.”
