Description
This 4 hour training, co-led by Nev Kundacina - Baby Cobra Yoga teacher, meditation guide and studio manager, and Anthea Taeuber - BCY teacher, founder of The Healing Quotient 501c3 and Mora Yoga, will cover the fundamental principles and science-backed practices of trauma-informed yoga.
Born out of passion and the necessity for inclusivity, understanding and compassion within yoga spaces, this training is designed to equip you with the essential knowledge to create safe, nurturing, and diverse environments for individuals of varying backgrounds and experiences. If you are a yoga teacher, mental health care practitioner, or personally seeking to enrich your own healing toolkit, this training is for you.
Through a blend of lectures, discussions and mini workshops, we will cover the following topics:
1. Understanding Trauma: Explore the multifaceted science of big T, little t, complex and shock trauma and their impact on the mind, body, and breath, and how yoga can support trauma healing.
2. Trauma-Informed Practices: Discover trauma-sensitive approaches to asana (postures), pranayama (breathwork), and meditation, emphasizing choice, empowerment, and autonomy. Cultivate mindfulness and grounding techniques to foster present-moment awareness and regulate the nervous system.
3. Building Safety and Trust: Learn essential skills for creating safe physical and emotional spaces, fostering a culture of consent, respect, and boundary-setting within your classes.
4. Accessibility and Adaptation: Explore the world of options that make yoga accessible to individuals with diverse abilities, bodies, and experiences. Develop the flexibility to adapt sequences and language to meet the unique needs of each student and yourself.
5. Self-Care and Resourcing: Explore the importance of self-care and resourcing as integral components of trauma-informed teaching and practicing - both on and off the mat.
* Trigger warning: Please keep in mind that topics covered in this training may be triggering. The space and the environment of this training is that of safety, curiosity and support. We will begin with grounding practices and have moments of pause throughout. Tea, fruit and chocolate will be provided as well as a 30 minute break for lunch (from 11:30am to 12pm). Feel free to bring anything with you that will help you feel comfortable and support this learning experience.
If you have any questions please email both (within the same email) manager@bbcobra.com and anthea@morayoga.com.
Please aim to arrive a minimum of 10min prior to the start time, so the training can begin on time.
