Description
Ambient Flow is an interdisciplinary somatic workshop which explores resonating themes within yoga, sound (synth & vocals), synesthesia, and poetry. Join facilitators Alzena Bell-Gilbert & Em Marie Kohl for this Queer centered event (allies welcomed) at Baby Cobra's Williamsburg studio. Ambient Flow is a Synth Library NYC member-led event, featuring a Roland Juno 106 from the library's collection.
Hour One: A trauma informed yoga flow accompanied by a sound bath featuring synth and vocals. Hour Two: A poetry workshop exploring the intersections of synth, poetry, synesthesia, and chakras.
Alzena Bell-Gilbert is a multi-hyphenate musician, performer and music producer living in Brooklyn. Their work runs the gamut from classical music, to theatre, to spiritual jazz. As a non-binary artist of Black and Jewish descent, they exist outside of conventional categorization and must seek expansiveness in their music. Favorite performances include SXSW, Copenhagen Pride, and the Brooklyn Museum.
Em Marie Kohl is a neurodivergent white queer creative living in Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY). Em is a Hatha and Trauma certified yoga teacher, with a BFA in Visual Art and MFA in Creative Writing. Em’s interdisciplinary practice is in dialogue with loneliness-isolation & its redress, access & accessibility, cosmic ecology and love. Em builds community through mutual care and an openness towards continual growth. www.emmarie.xyz
Pay-what-you-can Tickets
Ambient Flow tickets are offered on a sliding scale pay-what-you-can model in increments of $10, offering 4 levels $10-$40. Below are some guidelines to help you when navigating which ticket you can afford & select*:
Consider paying more on the scale if you: Own the home you live in, have investments, retirement accounts, inherited money, travel recreationally, work part-time by choice, have access to family money and resources in times of need, have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.) Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, we ask you to recognize this as a choice.
Consider paying less on the scale if you: Are supporting children or have other dependents, have significant debt, have medical expenses not covered by insurance, have tuition/educational expenses, receive public assistance, have immigration related expenses, are a senior citizen.
The scale is intended to be a map, inviting each of us to take inventory of our financial resources and look deeper at our levels of financial privilege. It is a way to work towards economic justice on a local level. While we do ask you to look inward, please don’t stress about it. Pay what feels right.
