Settle In: A Yin Workshop for Queer Dancers and Nightlife Creatures with Lou (guest teacher)
Sat Oct 19, 2024 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM
Baby Cobra Yoga - Bushwick - 47 Thames St. #203, Brooklyn, 11237
Description
It can be challenging to find silence, breath and a deeper connection with our bodies when our work is so intensely and directly dependent on the physical vessel. Our bodies become a work tool, and sometimes that disconnect shows up in the form of physical injuries; many times, it shows up as emotional pain. In order to continue working, we push the body to “function” - moving it more, making it stronger, or maybe not moving it at all - and many times we end up forgetting to listen to what is happening within.
In this workshop, we will explore those layers together. Through breath, we regulate the nervous system and redirect our focus within. We explore a few Yin shapes and examine how the body feels, creating space within the joints and the fascia. We end with a short optional journaling or meditation practice, and observe what came up.
This practice is designed with queer dancers/nightlife workers in mind but all queer/trans individuals are welcome and will equally benefit from it. It is recommended to dress in something very comfortable and warm. Bring your journal and a pen if you wish. This workshop is suitable for all levels and modifications will be offered. If you have any questions about the practice or special needs feel free to DM Lou at @lousdiares on IG.
