The Meridian Yoga Technique (MYT) developed by Dr. Rose Erin Vaughan, blends Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with yoga for a comprehensive practice that helps you to cultivate harmony in your body, mind, and spirit.
About the practice: This series of yoga poses, self-acupressure, breathwork, sound purification, and meditation practices utilize the TCM Meridian pathways and points to connect our experience in our physical bodies to our deeper emotional and energetic experiences, so you can heal from within.
We will focus on Autumn and the corresponding Metal Element, exploring yoga techniques to support your Lung and Large Intestine meridians. In Chinese Medicine, Autumn is about letting go and drawing energy back inwards, which we see mirrored in nature as the trees start to lose their leaves…
Your Lungs have to do with grief, sadness, death, as well as clarity and acceptance. We tend to hold grief, in particular, in our upper chests, and releasing these tension patterns can be emotional, cathartic, and healing.
Imbalances in this organ/meridian can relate to grief, sadness, and the difficulties of processing loss and change, as well as classical lung problems (shallow breathing, chest tightness, losing your voice, persistent coughing, dry throat, susceptibility to respiratory illness), as well as skin issues. When this meridian is balanced, we can help ourselves process grief and move forward with resilience, acceptance, and clarity.
Your Large Intestines are about letting go of what is no longer needed, in your body, mind, or emotionally. They embody an energy of purification, release, surrender, and completion.
When this organ/meridian is imbalanced, it can manifest in digestive systems (Large intestine related - constipation, irregular bowels), skin problems, and a sense of feeling stuck. When this meridian is balanced, we can support our own discernment around what to let go of, and what to hold onto, and our ability to let go of the things that are no longer for us.
By working with these organs and meridian pathways, you can support yourself emotionally, specifically around processing grief, sadness, and changes in life. This practice helps you develop awareness of deeper energetic pathways, as they relate to your emotions, inner world, and physical body. :)
Our bodies hold deep innate wisdom, and the capacity to heal ourselves from within. MYT helps you to tap into this; as you build awareness of the subtle energy in your body and the complex and intelligent systems within, you can form a more holistic relationship to your body, emotions, and being.
What to expect: You can expect a grounding practice that deepens your experience in classic yoga poses, expands your body awareness, and teaches you about the TCM meridian pathways, focusing on the Metal Element and Autumn Season. Whether you are new to Traditional Chinese Medicine or are an experienced practitioner, you can expect to expand your awareness of these pathways and how you can move the energy through movement, breath, and awareness.
You may experience emotions surfacing as we move through the practice. MYT is designed to help you balance and release these emotions in a safe and trauma-informed setting, so that you can return back to your true center: loving awareness ˗ˏˋ ♡ ˎˊ˗
This practice is beginner-friendly and all-levels, beneficial and engaging for the first-time yogi and the longtime practitioner alike.
