Sound of The Self: The Sound of Belonging—Listening, Compassion & the Space Between Us with Andrea Baquero

Sun Oct 25, 2026 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM Baby Cobra Yoga - Williamsburg - 108 Bayard St., Brooklyn, 11222

This workshop invites you to explore the transformative potential of listening. Through Nada Yoga, deep listening practices, somatic awareness, sound, and contemplative practices inspired by the Buddhist cultivation of compassion and interdependence, you will discover new tools to navigate your inner world and interact with the world around you. Moving beyond sound as a tool for individual expression, we will explore how the quality of our attention shapes our relationship with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us.

Through embodied listening, vocal resonance, meditation, and shared sound practices, we will cultivate a deeper awareness of the body, explore the relationship between sound and silence, and create space for meaningful connection and belonging.

No singing or music experience is required. The workshop is particularly supportive for yoga teachers, therapists, coaches, performers, creatives, sensitive types and anyone interested in deepening self-awareness, mindful communication, and connection with others.

This workshop integrates short somatic movement and breath to ground the body, followed by guided listening practices, sounding explorations, brief meditation, and sound-based techniques. Inspired by the Buddhist cultivation of compassion and interdependence, we will explore listening as a practice of presence, openness, and connection.

Participants experience:

• A short somatic movement and breath sequence to cultivate embodied awareness

• Practices for listening inwardly and developing sensitivity to bodily sensations

• Humming, toning, sounding or vocal resonance as tools for presence and self-awareness

• Nada Yoga practices exploring sound, silence, and the subtle qualities of listening

• Guided exercises in mindful and compassionate listening

• Optional paired or group practices exploring the relationship between sound, connection, and shared presence

• Sound meditation

• Reflection on how the quality of our attention influences our relationships with ourselves and others

Participants will be invited to explore their own experience at their own pace, with options to participate silently or vocally. No previous experience with yoga, meditation, musical or vocal practices is required.

Yoga Alliance Continuing Education: 1.5 hours credit if requested in the ticket purchase.

Andrea Baquero is a New York–based interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of sound, embodied practice, and contemplative philosophy. Trained as a classical pianist and practitioner of Nada Yoga (the yoga of sound), she bridges Western music with Northern Indian traditions, exploring sound as a vehicle for cultivating perception, attention, and relational awareness. She is the founder of NYC Piano School and has performed internationally at venues including the Vatican, Notre-Dame de Paris, Steinway Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, and Webster Hall. Her training includes a Master’s degree in classical piano and journalism, over 900 hours of study in yoga and classical Indian music, specialization in Nada Yoga, studies at Yoga Niketan Ashram and a Meditation Teacher Training at Three Jewels NYC. She is also a certified Focalizing and vibroacoustic therapist. With over 16 years of teaching experience in New York City, her work translates Himalayan, Tibetan and Indian contemplative teachings into contemporary, body-based experiences, using sound as a tool for introspection, nervous system regulation, and the cultivation of compassion and interdependence.
