ICEA-Approved Postpartum Doula Workshop

Offered By BabyMatters

The postpartum period is tender, powerful, and often overwhelming. Families don’t just need information during this time. They need steady support. They need someone who knows how to listen, notice, and gently guide.

A postpartum doula walks alongside families as they adjust to life with a new baby. This includes practical newborn care, emotional support, feeding guidance, and care for the whole family system. Just as important, it means knowing when to reassure and when to encourage a family to reach out for additional help.

This workshop is designed to help you step into that role with clarity, confidence, and care.

Who This Workshop Is For

This training is a good fit for people who feel drawn to supporting families after birth, including:

  • Aspiring or current postpartum and birth doulas
  • Nurses, healthcare workers, and educators
  • Caregivers, grandparents, and family support people
  • Community leaders and advocates working with new families
  • Anyone who wants to offer thoughtful, informed postpartum support

Many participants come intending to pursue ICEA Postpartum Doula Certification. Others take the workshop to strengthen the care they already provide in their families, communities, or professional roles. Both paths are welcome.

What You’ll Learn

This workshop covers the full ICEA-approved curriculum while keeping the learning grounded and manageable. We move step by step, with space for questions, discussion, and hands-on practice.

You’ll learn about:

  • The role and scope of the postpartum doula
  • Supporting physical recovery after birth
  • Emotional and mental health support for parents
  • Newborn appearance, behavior, and care
  • Breastfeeding and alternative feeding methods
  • Communication and listening skills that build trust
  • Professional responsibilities and ethical boundaries
  • An overview of ICEA, its history, and the certification process
  • Ways to care for yourself and stay connected to this work over time

Throughout the workshop, we also talk honestly about what this work looks like in real life. What feels easy. What feels hard. And how to grow into the role without feeling like you have to know everything right away.

Certification Pathway

This workshop fulfills the educational requirement for ICEA Postpartum Doula Certification. We’ll clearly walk through the certification steps, timelines, and expectations so you can decide what feels right for you and your life.

You do not need to commit to certification to take this workshop. Many students choose to decide after the training once they better understand the work.
