Zimmermann Kaffeehaus -- A Concert and Fundraiser for the Bach Cantata Choir

Enjoy a taste of 18th-century German culture as experienced by the music patrons at the Zimmermann Kaffeehaus in 1735 in Leipzig, Germany.!

The Bach Cantata Choir will host a special concert and fundraiser on Sunday, November 16, 2026 from 2pm to 4pm at the German American Society (5626 NE Alameda St).  Enjoy coffee or tea (in a special mug you get to take home) while being treated to a performance of J. S. Bach's Coffee Cantata -- a humorous blend of coffee culture, family dynamics, and brilliant music.  

There will also be a raffle for gift baskets and a silent auction to raise funds for the Bach Cantata Choir's ongoing mission to present live performances of the music of J.S. Bach and other Baroque composers.  German pastries will be available for purchase along with beer, wine, and other refreshments. 

In 1723, Zimmermann's Kaffeehaus was the largest and best-appointed Kaffeehaus in Leipzig and a center for gentlemen and the middle classes. While women were forbidden from frequenting coffeehouses, they could attend public concerts at Zimmermann's. (At this event, the audience will not only hear from Zimmermann, but also from some of the women as well!). In 1729, Johann Sebastian Bach began holding regular concerts at the venue, featuring German and Italian opera, chamber music, secular cantatas (such as his Coffee Cantata), and orchestral works. 

Just like at the original Zimmermann Kaffeehaus, seating will be at tables. The event is limited to 160 ticket buyers. All seating is General Admission -- doors will open at 1:15pm on the day of the event. 

The German American Society is located at 5626 NE Alameda St, which is at the corner of NE Sandy Blvd and NE 57th Ave. There is ample parking in the Society's parking lot directly across Alameda St. from the Society.  The facility is wheelchair accessible.
