Join us for a nature-focused morning walk with Nick Patel, from Wilder Skies.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

A fun-filled autumnal walk at which we will explore the stunning landscape of Vallis Vale and learn about its incredible wildlife. Nick will guide you along the vale, showcasing its fabulous rich habitats, pointing out why this special place is home to so much wildlife.

The woodland habitat surrounding Egford brook at Vallis Vale is an oasis for wildlife year round, but during the autumn months it really comes to life. Woodland fungi clambers to the veteran trees, migrant birdlife hops amongst the canopy, late invertebrates flit about in the dappled sunlight. Join us for a gentle wander along the water's edge and through the woodland ecosystem in search of some of the autumnal delights.

Wildlife we might spot along the way: shaggy inkcap, porcelain fungi, nuthatch, treecreeper, redwing, dipper, grey wagtail, speckled wood, and - hopefully - much more!

This event is for all those interested in learning more about our town’s amazing wealth of wildlife and for all ages and levels of experience. To make your walk as pleasant as possible, wear sturdy boots and comfortable clothes. Bring a water bottle, a snack and a pair of binoculars, if you have one.

WHO WILL BE YOUR GUIDE?

Nick is a tour guide, conservationist, naturalist and birder and is passionate about helping to protect, create and maintain British wildlife. A lifelong Birdwatcher, and former nature reserve warden, Nick has devoted his life to shouting about how amazing our native biodiversity is and just why we should care for it. Through his local nature tours company ‘Wilder Skies’ he hopes to encourage as many people as possible to appreciate our incredible local wildlife, as well as give people an idea of how we can help to protect and conserve it for the future. Nick is fascinated by urban wildlife and connecting people to the environment, making nature as accessible as possible.
