Badmaash Brum Film Club Presents : Layla by Amrou Al-Kadhi
📣 Announcing Badmaash Brum’s second screening on Thursday 22nd October :
LAYLA (2024) film by Amrou Al-Kadhi @glamrou , who describes it as a daring and triumphant queer fairy tale love story between a young Arab drag queen and a white cis corporate gay man, exploring the relationship and conflicts between identity and desire, revealing how far we will all change who we are to be with the people we so desperately desire.
You can watch the trailer here.
We will be joined by Natasha Taheem's ' Queer Mendhi Night', a meet up for South Asian queer folks. We will have mendhi that we can enjoy putting on one another, cosying in at Pan Pan with Bombay mix and dive into Layla after queer desi short (to be announced soon).
Layla is played by Bilal Hasna, who is a British Pakistani-Palestinian actor and playright. He also starred in (what we think are) fun, offbeat shows Extraordinary and Dead Hot! Amrou Al-Kadhi is a British-Iraqi writer, actor, drag performer, and filmmaker known for their work on queer identity and cultural representation. They perform drag under the stage name Glamrou and created the autobiographical show Glamrou: From Quran to Queen.
