Meet your Instructor! Lorena Meija
A native of Argentina with a passion for baking, Lorena's journey began baking with her grandmother, who baked biscuits covered with sigh, cookies, and desserts. Lorena fell in love with baking and decided to make this passion her career.
For her first 3 years of baking, she was making different types of candies and dipping chocolates at the famous Webb's, old fashion, candy store in Davenport.
Being married to a Dominican, she heard him say many times “there is no cake like the Dominican cake”, and she felt challenged to learn how to make the famous cake to please her husband's demanding palate. It took him several years to perfect the recipe and the technique for balancing flavors with a flavorful and moist dough.
After graduating with honors from the pastry program at Valencia College, she opened the doors of Bake N Glow, a cookie decorating studio to give those who want to explore their creativity using colored royal icing the opportunity. Its mission is to help students discover their hidden talents by letting their ideas flow on a cookie-shaped canvas.
Currently, Lorena teaches classes in her studio to children and adults, as well as at private parties and birthdays. Bake N Glow prepares decorated cookies and sweets for all kinds of events. Their Dominican biscuits have been in great demand for the last 5 years. Dominicans have gladly accepted to enjoy this cake made by the hands of an Argentine.
Lorena also has a contract with Dramatic Education in their after-school program where she teaches cookie decorating to 22 OCPS schools (orange county schools).
Some of her work can be seen on her Bakenglow Instagram page!
