May 19th 1768 and King House is home to the King family. It is alive with excitement. An evening of celebration awaits. Young Robert King is returning from Eton College to meet his future wife and family. The guests arrive. As the celebrations unfold the harmonious and joyful atmosphere leads to the re igniting of old familial grievances, jealousies and sibling rivalries. All the while our two young lovers, with eyes only for each other, are determined to make King House their happy ever after home.

This immersive theatre journey removes the stage and immerses the audience within the performance itself following the action as it moves from room to room in this magnificent historic townhouse. Instead of watching from a distance the audience engage with the story, actors and environment, blurring the lines between observer and participant.

It promises to be an unforgettable experience. Prepare to be transported back. To step back in time. This time in the historic Edmondstown House.

Betrothed has been created with the kind support of Roscommon County Council Arts Office. It is a co-production with Boyle Arts Festival and Ballaghaderreen Arts Festival. Special thanks to Rhona McGrath Roscommon Arts Officer and Patricia Golden, King House.

Betrothed is loosely based on real events that occurred at King House in 1768.
