Who is this for?

The BWI Adult Intensive is for beginner adult dancers (18+) striving to push themselves and improve both technically and artistically with Isabella. Prepare to enjoy working hard and be empowered in a positive, encouraging atmosphere!

About this level:

The Beginner level is aimed at adults who have a good understanding of a basic, traditional ballet barre and want to advance their knowledge and build confidence. This is not for absolute beginners. We'll spend a lot of time practicing the minute details of foundational steps at the barre and in the centre. We'll focus on proper alignment, head and arm coordination, and simple combinations of steps and work on échappé, assemblé, changement and pas de chat jumps, and plié retiré (pirouttes not required!). The beginner level is great if you've been training for at least 1 year (2 times a week or more).

If you're not sure which is the level for you, email events@balletwithisabella.com or check out the other levels available from our box office.

A day at this intensive will consist of a guided warm-up, Vaganova technique class, floor barre, technique deep-dive to hone the details, conditioning and stretching.

You’ll love this intensive if:

  • You are serious about improving technique and want to do so in a supportive environment.
  • You want to explore your artistry and discover new facets to yourself as a dancer.
  • You wish pre-professional intensives extended to adults as well.
  • You want to build community with other dancers who are passionate about ballet and about being the best dancers they can be.

It may not be the right intensive for you if:

  • You have never taken ballet before or are an Absolute Beginner. See balletwithisabella.com for our Absolute Beginner Course!
  • You are looking for drop-in classes or a part-time workshop (this intensive is a full 5 days).
  • You aren't interested in focusing on the minute details of technique.

FAQ’S

Do I have to attend the socials?
No! The group social is optional. However, it is included in your ticket price, and Isabella would love the opportunity to get to know you outside the studio!

Do I have to audition?
No! However, applications are required for the Advanced Adult Intensive. If you’re unsure which level is right for you, feel free to contact us at events@balletwithisabella.com or check out the other levels available on our box office page.

Is there an upper age limit?
No! The only age restriction is that participants must be at least 18 years old (excluding Ballet Lab). You should be accustomed to taking at least a few full-length dance classes per week and have a relatively high level of fitness.

Do I need to be en pointe to attend the intensive?
No! Pointe classes will also accommodate pre-pointe dancers. These classes will include foot and leg exercises, and the strength you gain will benefit any dancer, whether they dance en pointe or not.

Can I choose the days I want to attend?
Unfortunately, no. Attendance for the full duration of the Intensive is required to ensure you get the most out of the experience, and drop-in classes are not available. However, if you have a prior commitment and can only miss one day, please contact us in advance. We’ll do our best to accommodate you, though we strongly discourage missing any days.

Is there a virtual option?
No, all Intensives are in-person only?

We work with a list of preferred accommodation suppliers offering discounted rates. Please contact us at events@balletwithisabella.com, and we’ll be happy to assist with recommendations.

Is my ticket refundable?
No, tickets are non-refundable. However, you may transfer your ticket to another individual, provided the transfer complies with the BWI Terms and Conditions.

I can no longer make the Intensive, can I transfer my ticket to someone else?
You may transfer your ticket to another individual, provided the transfer request is made at least 72 hours before the event and is approved by the BWI team. Please refer to the Terms & Conditions for more details.

What do I need to bring?
Any required items will be detailed in the welcome pack you’ll receive prior to the Intensive. Be sure to review it carefully to ensure you're fully prepared.

Can I bring food and drink to the event?
Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and drink to the event. However, please ensure all items are consumed in designated areas and that you adhere to any venue-specific rules regarding food and beverages. What time should I get there?
Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before the stated time. A member of the BWI team will welcome you and take you to the studio.
