ITALIAN SOUNDS IN LONDON 2024 - ‘Tell me the truth about love’
FRANCESCO PETRARCA's Madrigals
music by Marenzio, De Rore, Monteverdi, Willaert
Join us for an exquisite programme of madrigals brought together by one common author - Francesco Petrarca, the 14th century tuscan scholar and poet whose sonnets were set to music by various successful composers of note at the end of the renaissance and the beginning of the baroque period in Europe.
Featuring rousing madrigals such as Marenzio’s Zefiro Torna, and soul-shattering arias such as Monteverdi’s Tu dormi? Ah, crudo core, as well as selections from Monteverdi’s masterpiece Orfeo, and as always some hidden gems from this period!
