ITALIAN SOUNDS IN LONDON 2024
‘Tell me the truth about love’
Is Puccini baroque?
Join us for the third concert of Italian sounds in London, marking 100 years since Puccini's death. But we couldn't resist stretching, turning upside down and looking for quirky corners in his music. Puccini is probably one of the composers whose melodies are part of everyone's unconscious musical awareness. Most, if not all, are about love. We have stepped back in time to look at how musicians through the centuries have expressed the same 'passion for love', and no way better than to look through the lens of the most common and universal musical forms : the song.
Despite the hundreds of years in between, we will look at and experience how Monteverdi, Purcell, Dowland and Strozzi's songs are very much connected to Puccini's memorable melodies.Featuring the wonderful tenor Davide Basso and soprano Mariana Rodriguez, alongside with pianist Panaretos Kyriatzidis and Istante Collective and of course not without the homemade focaccia, biscuits and drinks!
