Natural Glazing - Wood Ashes & Co.

Mon 7 Jul 2025 17:00 - 21:00 Barsega Studio & Gallery - Andreasstrasse 49, Berlin, 10243

Traditionally ceramic objects were created & glazed with only natural components : wood ashes, rocks reach, minerals, mud & natural pigments. We invite you to rediscover the diverse pallet of colors and materials that nature has to offer.

This workshop is a full on immersion into artistic practice of Barsega Studio Team and  Viviane Tabach, who has been working with natural materials since 6 years, conducting her research around the world and numerous studio experiments.

Together with Viviane you will dive into the history of natural glazes, go through the essential basics of glaze chemistry in a hands-on way and explore the endless possibilities of embodying natural components in your creative practice. You will learn how different minerals modify in the fire and how to work along with this transition.

You will learn the oldest traditional recipes and ways to transform them into endless glaze possibilities. All the participants will be invited to the "Glaze Buffet", where over a dozen of natural glaze components line up awaiting for your hands to do the magic of creating your own mixture.

Exploring glazes by the power of intuition and empirical research is the moto of current workshop.

Important

The workshop is accessible for absolute beginners, no prior knowledge of glaze mixing is required.
