What are Start-up Specials?
Start-up Specials are a series of networking events co-hosted by Basecamp Enterprise from the University of Bristol, and Student Ventures from the University of the West of England.
Designed to facilitate an exploration of what starting up can look like, these events showcase entrepreneurs from across a diverse range of sectors. They are a relaxed and informal way to hear stories from different perspectives with the opportunity to ask questions directly to these founders as they arise, network with like minded individuals and meet your Enterprise and Start-Up teams.
What's on?
Start-up Special #4: 'Start up and go – Journeys to work in the Creative Sector' is perfect for anyone interested in starting a business in the Creative Sector, or who wants to go onto work in this industry. Our panel will share insights into their personal entrepreneurial journeys, the ventures they have built and practical advice for aspiring student entrepreneurs seeking to start-up in this sector. Coming from a wide variety of ‘a’ typical creative sector backgrounds they show how they have navigated this complicated and challenging sector to prove that not only can it be done but it is fulfilling, and that creativity doesn’t need to come in one form.
This event will feature a panel of inspiring speakers (subject to change)
- Dan Martin - Freelance Journalist and content manager for Bristol Creative Industries
- Simon Evans - Founder of Karno and the developer of Loupe, a real world adventure game for nature.
- Hannah Tyson - Director of Hannah Tyson Ltd - Bringing her business knowhow to equip small creative companies and help them flourish.
- Helen Blenkinsop - Author of fast-paced fiction
- Heather Jo Reed - Bristol Based Author of crime fiction
After the panel discussion the remainder of the event will be dedicated to open networking. This is an opportunity to connect with fellow students, entrepreneurs, and professionals in a relaxed and collaborative environment.
