Level 6 Supervision Course

We are delighted to announce that we will be running a Level 6 Supervision Course starting this September. The course will be led by Nicky Worrall, a highly regarded psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer, who has drawn on her extensive experience to design and develop this Level 6 Course. Nicky's principles of delivering high-quality experiential training, underpinned by robust theory, align closely with BCS's training ethos and we are excited to be working with her. 

This 72-hour training will be running over six weekends from September 2024 to March 2025. The course is open to qualified counsellors with a minimum of two years' post-qualifying counselling experience, who wish to add supervision to their portfolio or enhance their existing supervision skills. A full list of entry criteria is detailed below.

Course attendees will benefit from Nicky's extensive experience in delivering this course for a number of years at other locations. Nicky is a UKCP registered psychotherapist and supervisor who has worked in private practice since 2004. In addition to running a busy private practice, she has worked in the NHS as a primary care counsellor and as a trainer at Metanoia Institute, Physis Scotland and Peter Symonds College teaching counselling and supervision. She has an interest in professional practice and has been a member of the UKATA Ethics and Professional Practice Committee since 2017.

Throughout her career, she has worked in roles which involve facilitating the development of others. Before retraining as a therapist whilst bringing up her young family, she worked in HR in a corporate environment for a number of years. As part of that she attended a counselling skills course and the rest is history!

She has a passion for relational supervision based on mutuality and collaboration and always looks forward to sharing the learning process with her participants.

All training days run from 9.30am to 4.30pm

Cost: £1,995 (Early Bird £1,795 available until 8th July 2024)

• A 2,500-word essay on supervision philosophy and methodology

Entry Requirements

• Qualified counsellor / psychotherapist (minimum Diploma level - copy of certificate required)
• A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience and indication of current caseload
• A minimum of 450 hours of counselling / psychotherapy practice
• Either practising as a supervisor or with the opportunity to supervise at least two supervisees during the course
• Confirmation of professional membership BACP / UKCP / NCPS
• Indemnity Insurance – please provide a copy
• No ethical complaints found against you or pending
• Personal statement of why you are interested in training as a supervisor
• Copy of CV

Placements

All students are required to make arrangements for a supervision practice placement (this can include within private practice) which:

• Offers supervision to qualified counsellors or to trainees who have ongoing additional supervision with a qualified supervisor
• Enables audio recording of sessions
• Enables students to complete 24 hours of supervision practice
• Is supervised at the ratio of one hour of supervision of supervision to six hours of supervision practice.
• Is supervised by an experienced supervisor with a recognised supervision qualification
• Requires your supervisees to make their primary supervisor aware they are receiving secondary supervision from a trainee supervisor
• Ensures the 24 hours of practice needs to be met within 3 months of completing the taught element of the course.

Qualification

A minimum of 80% attendance is required to gain your qualification in supervision and this will be taken into consideration alongside achieving the appropriate standard in skills practice, as assessed by the trainer at the end of the course. Providing you meet both these criteria, a Level 6 Certificate in Supervision will be awarded by Basingstoke Counselling Service, documenting the hours of CPD attended. Supervision work should always take place under an appropriately qualified and experienced supervisor of supervision.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that in order to receive the discounted rate due to the membership of BCS or Reading Therapies Group, you must be a member for the duration of the course. Full course fees will be payable if you leave your discounted organisation during the course. 

If changes in government guidelines mean the course can no longer take place in person, this course will move to an online platform and no refund will be offered.

In the unlikely event that unforeseen circumstances arise and BCS has to cancel this course, a full refund will be given. In the event of cancellation by the participant, BCS reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee as indicated by the table below. All requests for cancellations must be received in writing, with changes becoming effective on the date written confirmation is received.

Please ensure you meet the entry requirements prior to booking your place. If candidates do not meet the entry requirements they will be unable to attend the course and their withdrawal will be treated as a cancellation and subject to the above cancellation policy.
