Arborists - Complete your bat awareness training with just one course!

With the help of expert tutors we will provide you with the awareness of bat ecology, behaviour and legal knowledge you need to carry out tree works with consideration for the potential effects on bats and their habitats. You will examine the methods that can be used to rule out the potential of features as suitable bat roosts. Through practical sessions you will also develop useful practical skills including appropriate use of endoscopes under a method statement, and be given guidance on what can and cannot be done without a bat licence. This course is in line with British Standard 8596 Surveying for Bats in Trees and Woodland and uses the JNCC-approved Method Statement.

The course combines the content from our Scoping Surveys for Arborists and our Secondary Roost surveys course, allowing participants to complete their training on bats and arboriculture in a single course. Participants do not need any prior knowledge before attending this course.

Please note full use of an endoscope in bat surveys is only available to those with a bat license - this course will not completely negate the need to work with a bat ecologist in certain situations.
