Day 1
Sketchbook Play – Process led observations
Finding Inspiration & Creating our own unique visual language
·Starting with a playful arrangement of objects and textures, we will utilise a variety of approaches to drawing and painting to find line, shape, and motifs that engage us.
·We will immerse ourselves in the freeing effect of process-led mark-making.
·Through repetition and reimagining, we will develop our key interests.
·We will use Japanese watercolours, coloured pencils, and inks to create a layered, sketchbook-style layout.
·There will be an opportunity to embellish using gold foil
.
Day 2
Taking the Next Step -
Developing & Editing from Sketchbook Play
·Gold foil reveal!
·Transforming our layouts into mini sketchbooks.
·View and edit our compositions using our mini sketchbook and viewfinders.
·On watercolour paper, we will create edited versions from our mini sketchbooks.
This two-day workshopis a celebration of the sketchbook. You will be in a playful, relaxedenvironment where you will be encouraged to discover, explore, and develop without the pressure of outcomes, find your flow and nurture your own creative language. The workshop is designed to encourage a regular, attainable practice beyond this experience. It's about startingconversations, taking visual notes, and becoming a vessel for inspiration
DAY 1: Start with a playful arrangement of objects and textures. Using drawing and looking to find shape, line, and repeated patterns that inspire us, exploring a range of media, including watercolour paints, coloured pencils and ink.
DAY 2: Assemble experiments and observations to create mini sketchbooks. Use these assemblages to refine our initial creations and create small 'works in process' on artist-quality watercolour paper.
