Description
Eglise Gutiérrez, a distinguished soprano hailing from Holguin, Cuba, is celebrated as "one of opera’s next wave" by Opera News. Her illustrious career has taken her to renowned stages worldwide, including Covent Garden London, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, and Carnegie Hall, among others. With a repertoire spanning from iconic operas such as Lucia di Lammermoor to Rigoletto, she has captivated audiences with her performances. Gutiérrez's accolades include prestigious awards such as First Prize in the International Mirjam Helin Competition and as a three-time recipient of the Gerda Lissner Foundation Grant. A graduate of The Institute Superior of Art in Cuba and The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, Gutiérrez continues to enchant audiences with her remarkable talent and artistry, as showcased in her recent engagements, including performances at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona and collaborations with the Metropolitan Opera House and Opera Lyric of Chicago.
Through the presentation of preparatory drawings, prints, paintings, sculptures, and photographs, this exhibition considers the significant role that artists of Cuban heritage have played in the history of public art in Miami. The exhibition includes works by artists such as Jose Bedia, Manuel Carbonell, Enrique Martinez Celaya, Carlos Luna, Rafael Consuegra, and Lydia Rubio, who, like the other artists in the show, have been shaped by their personal and familial experiences with Cuba, and the culture of South Florida. An assemblage of documentation gathered from twenty artists will be a unique opportunity to understand the depth of influence these individuals have imprinted upon Miami-Dade County.
This event is free and open to the public.
